The 2022 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and All-Pro has repeated as the NFL’s top cornerback in rankings by The Associated Press. A panel of nine AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players at cornerback, making their selections based on current status through Week 8. Gardner, the New York Jets’ star, got seven first-place votes, one more than he received in the preseason poll.
Bryce Young had plenty of excuses available for his performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The Carolina Panthers rookie was playing just his fourth NFL game against one of the league's hottest teams in one of the sport's loudest arenas. “This is 100 percent on me,” he said after a 42-24 loss to the Lions.
Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell made some aggressive and conservative decisions in a 37-31 overtime loss to Seattle on Sunday. The usually gutsy coach went for it on fourth-and-4 instead of attempting a 48-yard field goal in the second quarter and Jared Goff threw an incomplete pass; went for it on fourth-and-3 and eventually scored a touchdown on the drive in third quarter; went for it on fourth-and-2 instead of a punt, helping Seattle have better field position to set up a touchdown at the end of the third quarter. Then on fourth-and-3 at the Seattle 20, he went for the game-tying field goal with 3 seconds left because he said it was too much of a risk to go for it.
