Several Texas school districts, including Austin's, have put bond issues on the Nov. 8 ballot with some of the proceeds earmarked to fund security measures.
The 2022-2023 budget includes a massive payment to the state’s recapture system and pay increases for teachers as well as other school staff. It also eliminates nearly 600 positions, primarily in the district’s central office.
Mays will replace outgoing superintendent Stephanie Elizalde. She is leaving Austin ISD after roughly two years in the role to return to Dallas ISD where she will be that district's new superintendent.
