尽管仍存不少分歧，但拜登还是给默克尔献上了不少赞美。据美国政治新闻网站Politico报道，拜登在白宫椭圆形办公室说道：“她是一位很棒的朋友，一位私人朋友，（也是）美国的朋友。”在会后的记者会上他还称会“想念”在（以后的领导人）峰会上见到默克尔，还半开玩笑地表示，“她和我一样熟悉椭圆形办公室。”
