The IJF have elected two of their biggest judo stars at the end of the in the occasion of the first edition of the Judofestival. An online broadcast of 17 hours with interviews, explanation about topics such as dealing with the corona virus and of course the election of athletes in various categories.
Ukraine super star Daria Bilodid was elected as the winner of the female judoka of the year 2019-2020. The double world champion in poised to win the Olympic title but had to wait another year and stay in her category U48kg. She won the Grand Slam in Paris this year.
Chkhvimiani and Bilodid win awards as IJF’s best judoka of 2019-2020 Sunday, 27 December 2020
Lukhumi Chkhvimiani of Georgia and Ukraine’s Daria Bilodid were named as respective male and female judoka of the year for 2019-2020 at the International Judo Federation Awards, which concluded today’s virtual and inaugural JudoFest event.
Chkhvimiani had a stellar 2019 in the extra-lightweight under-60 kilograms category, winning the world title in Tokyo and the European and European Games titles in Minsk.
Bilodid, who turned 20 on October 10, successfully defended her extra-lightweight under-48kg world title in Tokyo in 2019 - having become the youngest-ever world champion the previous year at the age of 17.
