The German government will stop financing the measures to keep gas and electricity prices from growing starting in January 2024, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Friday.

Almost half of Germans favor the dissolution of the current government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and about a third blame him for the suspended budget, according to a poll conducted by the Civey sociological institute for German news magazine Focus on Friday.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the new strategy, which his three-party governing coalition pledged to draw up when it took office at the end of 2021, had gained added importance since Russia attacked Ukraine almost 16 months ago.
