Updated Feb 01, 2021;
A 16-year-old boy who was on juvenile parole for assault and other crimes was arrested late last week in a fatal shooting in Salem in mid-January.
The murder case is among the first to be charged under Oregon’s new juvenile justice law, which shifts the prosecution of major felonies from the adult system to the juvenile one.
Marion County juvenile authorities identified the teen as Gerardo Trujillo-Torres, 16, and said he was arrested Friday and accused of first-degree murder, attempted murder, intentional first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon in the Jan. 16 killing of Joshua Steward, 24.
