By the time Morgan Holmes and Gerald Brevard III crossed paths on a scrubby strip of highway behind an animal shelter in Washington, DC, they had spent years following each other's erratic footsteps, tracing zigzag paths through the courts and jails and mental hospitals of the nation's capital and its suburbs.
Morgan Holmes was 54 years old. DC Police said Holmes was one of 5 homeless men attacked by Gerald Brevard in DC and New York. Holmes was killed March 9th.
For the first two weeks of March, a dark cloud loomed over East Coast cities. Someone was traveling between New York and Washington, D.C., shooting homeless people as if for sport. At least two were dead and three wounded.
