Samar governor urged to stop illegal quarrying

PALO, Leyte: The Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (MGB-DENR) in Eastern Visayas asked Samar Gov. Sharee Ann Tan to issue a cease-and-desist order against the alleged illegal quarrying inside the Provincial Engineering Office compound in Barangay Payao, Catbalogan, Samar.MGB-DENR 8 Regional Director Glenn Marcelo Noble in his Aug. 7, 2023 letter to Tan, through Penro-Samar officer Wilfredo Lacambra, asked her to stop the quarrying activities of the RAS Eastern Builders Development Corp.Noble said he asked Tan to issue the order because the construction firm is conducting an extraction and hauling operation in Barangay Payao without mining or quarry operation permit from the MGB-DENR.The MGB-DENR threatened to take legal action against the construction firm which is implementing a development project in Samar.Tan was also asked to require the construction firm to pay the corresponding extraction and excise tax for the extracted mountain
