still with the unemployment rate at 9.7%, it is still uncomfortably high. we d like that number to be closer to 5%. it s not expected to come down any time soon. so we ll be keeping our eyes on this but we re still dealing with it. keep in mind in january of last year we lost almost 800,000 jobs, so definitely losing 20,000 is definitely moving in the right direction. all right, taking a look at the markets right now, the dow on the downside 31 points to the lower, so back below 10,000. haven t closed below that in three months. nasdaq up about 3.5 points right now, don. a better direction would be, you know, if we see 20,000 jobs added or 200 to the whole picture. reporter: right. remember, we saw a blip of added gains of jobs in november and then lost them, plus that in december, so. as you said, take what we can. every little bit helps. thank you, stephanie. more now on the january jobs report and what the numbers tell us. danny boston is an economics professor at georgia
