Then I said it to him.
I had to.
“But you haven’t even caught the turkey yet.”
“I don’t think he liked me,” said Polisena, a Democrat.
He speculated the turkey could be a Republican.
Forgive the metaphor, but for a while, the turkey became Polisena’s great white whale. I once went on a dragnet with him and the cops to chase it down. We spotted and cornered it in a parking lot. But it dodged us and skipped the traces.
Lately, no sign of it for months.
“Thank God,” said Polisena.
I asked him why farm animals keep running wild around urban Johnston and can’t be caught.

A steer on its way to a slaughterhouse escaped as it was being corralled last week and remains on the loose in Johnston, R.I., police said.
The 1500-1600 pound steer was being delivered to a slaughterhouse by a Connecticut farmer when it managed to break free of its restraints, according to Johnston Police Chief Joseph P. Razza. The steer, which some residents have taken to calling âMoodiniâ thanks to its disappearing nature, is still roaming after vanishing early Friday, according to Razza.
