Grande Prairie’s longest serving mayor chaired his final city council meeting on Monday.
Mayor Bill Given, who has served on council for 20 years including 10 as mayor, presided over his final council meeting as he heads off to begin a new role as the chief administrative officer for the Municipality of Jasper in the New Year.

Given said he had mixed emotions about the night
“I am sure if I think too hard about it now I will get very, very emotional,” he added.
“I am very grateful to have been able to serve my community in the way that I have and I am very grateful to the community members who have invited me into their community celebrations and their cultural celebrations and have been willing to share their knowledge and wisdom with me over the years. It has been a fantastic journey.”
