The Daily Express George Pitcher, an Anglican priest, said his daughter was born on April 4 and 2021 is the next year it falls on Easter Sunday. “The journey from Christmas to Easter every year marks the passage from human darkness to the renewed hope and resurrection of a new season,” he said. “This year and into 2021, it’s not an over-exaggeration to imagine that we will not have felt this process of transformation so keenly as a people since, perhaps, the days between Christmas 1944 and VE Day on May 8 1945.” He said the shining light of thousands of NHS volunteers, health workers who risked their own lives and scientists developing vaccines give us hope during the dark times.

Tier rules will change in some parts of the UK, as ministers hit their first evaluation deadline yesterday, two weeks after England left national lockdown and adopted a familiar regional approach. Ministers promised Tier 3 regions would have a shot at moving down the scale head of Christmas, while lower tier regions could risk moving up. Their first opportunity has now passed, and while some areas have reduced their caseload, others have only seen it increase.

Coronavirus vaccination is well underway in the UK, where health workers have delivered on the 800,000 Pfizer jabs they procured from the US. They have now administered hundreds of thousands of initial doses, with more to come when further batches arrive. But the next batch may come from a different pharmaceutical company, Moderna, which is just a step behind Pfizer in its development process.

The first of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines arrived in the UK on December 3. The first batch included 800,000 doses of the vaccine, which is enough to vaccinate 400,000 people. Further vaccines are expected to arrive in the UK over the coming months, and people have been urged to wait to be contacted about receiving their vaccines.
