i m eric thomas. and i m kristen sze. top story this morning, there is new deal that could bring back the jobs of 80 police officers recently laid off in oakland but there is a catch, a rather big catch. teresa garcia joins us live from the oakland police department with the latest on late night deal. catch is you ve got to have a lot of people approving this in all different facets. city unions who have approved to contribute pensions but police haven t. now, they struck a deal with city council they may decide to pitch in but much rests on the shoulders of oakland residents. here is the plan, to rehire officers, includes a four-year 360 per year parcel tax. they paragraphed it 5-3 to put it on the ballot to fund police and fire services. property tax increase requires two-thirds approval. council will only put this new tax on the ballot if the oakland police officers association agrees by august 10th to contribute 9% in their pension funds. if it airline passes, 80 offi
trouble commuters will face this morning. good morning to view. good morning. what could be commuting chaos for drivers, this is the scene drivers will encounter at five dozen intersections across the county. police are directing traffic. use those as four-way stops. at other intersections, police are advising people to be careful because police will not be at every intersection. they tell us that you should proceed cautiously. there are about 150 intersections that are still in the dark this morning. the good news is we have seen some neighboring lights come back on line this morning. even though right here at 29, the lights are still out. they are advising everyone to be cautious. if you are going to be driving in montgomery county, at extra travel time to your schedule because you will run into these types because of the outages. brianne carter reporting live. all of this stress over having no power has turned dangerous. two people rushed to the hospital. courtney robi

what the president says about the documents released from quicklyleaks. a drunk driving recently sentenced for the death of a novato girl was just killed. edward shaffer who had nine dui convictions was stabbed to death and the fellow inmate is responsible. reporter: good afternoon. shaffer was found dead in san quentin prison. at the time of the sentencing, shaffer apologized. it s reported that an inmate stabbed shaffer on monday morning. shaffer was serving time for killing 9-year-old melanie osheroff. we spoke to aaron, her father, and he told us that police came to the door with the news. instead of him being in prison and serving time, he s like dead. we sort of felt that he got out the easy way. reporter: sosheroff said he would rather have had shaffer serve the entire investigation. we just continue on with our lives. that s what we re trying to do this whole time. just continue on with our lives. i mean, shaffer is edward shaffer himself is removed from t
