Kudos to the Star-Advertiser, and especially to Mililani Trask, George Hudes and Dawn Morais Webster, for clarifying an extremely complex situation: the war between Hamas and Israel (“We must speak now: Palestinians in Rafah are in terror,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, Feb. 15).
Last week, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said, “When Jewish people hear chants like ‘from the river to the sea,’ a founding slogan of Hamas … we are alarmed.”
The suffering undergone by both Israelis and Palestinians in the Holy Land has been heart- wrenching and we surely lament those who have lost their lives.
Recent indiscriminate violence wreaked by Hamas must be understood in a context of response by displaced refugees who have suffered Israeli apartheid, deprivation and indiscriminate violence for more than 75 years.
