Cawthorn is among 11 legislators targeted by the Republican Accountability Project, a group led by former Ronald Reagan staffer Bill Kristol, ex-Donald Trump senior advisor Elizabeth Neumann and others.
Similar billboards have been placed in the districts of Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Josh Hawley of Missouri and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.
