SWINDON Town sank to the foot of the League One table following a thumping 4-1 defeat away at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday evening. A woeful first 45 set the foundations for a horror performance, with goals from Joe Pigott, Will Nightingale and Ayoub Assal putting the hosts three goals ahead at the break. Pigott piled on the misery early in the second half before Tyler Smith pulled a late consolation goal back for the visitors. With victories for Wigan Athletic and Rochdale earlier on in the day, Town dropped to the foot of the table – seven points off the Latics in 20th – with four games to go.
The Stanley Park Three
The names of Marriott, Morris, and Pickering might not instantly come to mind when mentioning former members of Everton Football Club but they played a major defensive role during their formative years on Stanley Park. The first of this trio to appear there was Thomas Marriott.
He was born on 4 February 1861 and was the third son of Mary and her husband, John, who worked as a cotton porter. The family were, at that time, living at 2 Duke Street but, by 1881, they were living in better surroundings at Gray Rock Street where Thomas was working as a clerk. He first played at full-back alongside Tom Evans, from whose experience all three were to benefit during the season of 1880-81, after which he was partnered by a man from the North-East of England.

Mick OâBrienâs home side won 4-1 with goals from Jackie Blackwell, George Dobson, Bobby Bruce and Jackie Williams.
Another historic Town programme, just a single sheet, sold for £55. This was for the 1952 joint-benefit match for Harry Baird and Tommy Parker between the Blues first team and a Select XI, the first ever testimonial game at the club.
Sunderland AFC midfielder George Dobson has joined AFC Wimbledon on loan until the end of the 2020-21 season.
The 23-year-old moved to the Stadium of Light from Walsall in July 2019, scoring three goals in 46 appearances.
Everyone at SAFC would like to wish George the best of luck during his loan spell.
