CORONAVIRUS hit football hard on the Isle of Wight, but the vote to continue playing the Saturday League has led to one casualty and the possibility of more to follow. One of the Island’s oldest clubs, Ventnor, has been forced to drop out of Division 1, with all of its results expunged. With clubs forced to play catch up to complete the season by May 27, it has put a strain on many squads, such as ECS and Binstead & COB.

A GROUP of Isle of Wight volunteers, fined for breaching Covid-19 lockdown rules, have had their £100 fines dropped, police have confirmed. Yesterday (Sunday), it was revealed a football team based in Ventnor had raised more than £700 on Go Fund Me after six volunteers were handed fines over a Covid-19 lockdown regulation breach. Police were called to the sports centre on Whitwell Road, Ventnor, at around 4pm on Saturday, following reports of a gathering of people drinking inside. Six men were initially reported for summons by the attending officer in relation to fixed penalty notices for suspected breaches of the current Health Protection Regulations by gathering.
