Responsible for Cannibal Corpse's guttural growls for over 25 years, George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher is gearing up for his first-ever solo release. Titled Corpsegrinder (why waste a killer title, after all), it's exactly the kind of no-frills, meat-and-potatoes death metal battering we've come to expect. Which naturally means it's fucking glorious. “I’m like a kid on Christmas right now," Fisher enthuses. "I can’t wait for it to come out – especially because it arrives while I’m actually on tour with Cannibal Corpse.” To commemorate the album's release, we spoke to the death metal icon about the genre's early years, getting scapegoated by politicians and being immortalised as the singer of an animated death metal band.
Six albums and 17 years into their career, Hangman s Chair are something of a well-kept secret in France s doom metal scene. An appearance on the closing track of Perturbator s decidedly gothic-inspired Lustful Sacraments helped thrust the band towards the (much deserved) spotlight, but A Loner should be the final push needed to bring their 80s-tinged goth-doom brilliance to the masses. If you fell head over heels for Unto Others or Grave Pleasures, just wait till you get a load of this.

You already know I love some Death Metal, and I’m sure you know I love some Cannibal Corpse, too! Now, in my opinion, one must divide Cannibal Corpse into (at least) two eras: The Chris Barnes era and the Corpsegrinder era. BTW, you should already know that Chris Barnes is my favorite Death Metal vocalist! So, we will divide my favorites list between the two eras – Barnes and Grinder.
