A child rapist, a puppy farmer and a racist who spouted vile abuse at Pontins have been spared jail this month.
These are the people who came before the courts but were given a chance by judges and magistrates and weren t sent straight to jail.
Instead these offenders were handed either a suspended sentence or a community sentence, with their punishment managed outside of jail.
When determining sentence, judges and magistrates must adhere to a set of guidelines outlined by the Sentencing Council and take into consideration a number of factors.
