Wynn started thinking a new fuel station was needed in the town about six years ago. With only one other fuel outlet in Geraldine, there was a gap, he believed, especially at the height of the busy summer holiday season. The process of acquiring the land and sorting out consents took three to four years. NPD own the site and buildings including the Refresh cafe attached to the fuel station while Wynn and Moore lease the site from NPD while buying the fuel from the company and on-selling. Wynn said he and Moore were new to the fuel industry. Moore was a stock manager at Irishman Creek Station in the Mackenzie Country.
Wynn said the development in Waihi Tce (State Highway 79), opposite competitor Z Geraldine, would include a cafe employing between 12 and 15 people. The new site will operate 24/7 and have eight filling positions for cars and light vehicles offering regular 91, premium unleaded 95, diesel and NPD’s 100Plus. NPD chief executive Barry Sheridan said the family owned fuel retailer now had 80 sites in the South Island. “We know that there is demand for NPD in Geraldine, and we’re so pleased that we have identified an excellent site for locals and visitors to the area.”
