Rossendale students Apprentice style bake-off wins Holland s Pies seal of approval

Rosie Hesketh (Head of Year 10), Josh Williams, Jo Griffiths (Headteacher), Ruby Heap, Olivia Barnes, Jenny Goater, Eromi Navaratnam, Geoff Hughes (Head of New Product Development at Holland’s Pies) and Leanne Holcroft (Brand Manager at High school students were asked to form their own pie companies and develop a unique flavour of pie to be judged by a famous Lancashire baker. As part of the school s enterprise week, year 10 students from Alder Grange School in Rossendale were given the Apprentice style task and enlisted the help of staff from Accrington s Holland’s Pies who sat on the judging panel. With three days to perfect their presentation, each team of students prepared a pitch for brand manager, Leanne Holcroft, and head of new product development at Holland’s Pies, Geoff Hughes, as well as the school s head and deputy head teachers.

Chosen from 150 applications, all compositions will be recorded live for broadcast and commercial release via ABC Music, with each successful applicant being granted up to $6,000 to assist in the writing and recording of their work. Out of the 15 successful composers and performers selected in the fund, more than half identify as female, with two composers identifying as First Nations, three as LBGTQIA+, and five as linguistically and culturally diverse.
