A suspect in a carjacking in Athens on Monday was apprehended in Oconee County later in the day after authorities said he ran out of gas in the stolen car and called 911 for help.
The suspect s name has not been released as Athens-Clarke police continue to investigate the case, according to a police spokesman.
A 21-year-old Bethlehem man told Athens-Clarke police that as he left Planet Fitness on Atlanta Highway shortly after 11 a.m. Monday, he was approached by a stranger asking for a ride. The man agreed and as they traveled west on Atlanta Highway, the suspect asked to use his phone to find directions to Lavonia, according to police.
