The winningest coach in Kent State history is here to stay.
Rob Senderoff signed an extension to remain the Golden Flashes’ Men’s Basketball Head Coach through the 2025-26 season. The announcement was made Tuesday by newly appointed Director of Athletics Randale Richmond.
“We’re thrilled to extend the contract of Coach Senderoff,” Richmond said. “His consistency is a testament to the passion he brings to the game.”
Senderoff has been the Flashes’ bench boss for 10 seasons, tied with Jim McDonald for longest tenure in school history. He was hired in 2011 after three previous seasons as the associate head coach under Geno Ford. He has also been an assistant at Yale, Towson, Indiana, and Fordham.

The Stony Brook men’s basketball team would like to remove the sour taste of its worst season in 13 years, a season that ended by blowing a 16-point second-half lead in the opening round of the America East playoffs against an opponent the team had displayed historic dominance against.
Judging by their offseason transactions, the Seawolves are going all in to secure the program’s first NCAA Tournament bid since 2016. Days after Elijah Olaniyi announced his decision to transfer back to Stony Brook after a season in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with Miami, the Seawolves’ roster gained even more starpower with another pair of transfers.

The Stony Brook men’s basketball team was going to enter the America East Tournament on the road, regardless of the results of a weekend series at the Albany Great Danes on Feb. 20 and 21. Although success from beyond the arc in a first game win offered hope that the team was turning a corner, the Seawolves could not carry it over to the second game.
“Hopefully next weekend we can get hot, because we’re capable,” head coach Geno Ford said about the postseason after Sunday’s defeat. “Our defense and rebounding is way good enough to make a deep run in the tournament here, but we can’t be 3-for-19 [in shooting threes] and win.”

The last two weeks offered a hefty challenge for the Stony Brook men’s basketball team, with four games against the top two teams in the America East standings. After being swept in Burlington by the Vermont Catamounts on Feb. 13 and 14, the Seawolves lost all four of those contests.
“We need to win just to feel better about life,” head coach Geno Ford said in a postgame press conference after suffering the sweep on Sunday. “This weekend was kind of extra because we did play well enough to win … I think that we all are ready for the tournament.”
