Apple iPhone 13 will be slightly thicker than iPhone 12, will continue with the same 7P camera lens tech
It has just been a week into the new year and the earliest we can expect the next iPhone model to arrive is around the fall season. But that isn’t stopping the iPhone 13 from being the subject of all sorts of leaks and speculations. Take for instance the latest on this which is claiming the iPhone 13 will have a similar external build like that of the iPhone 12, save for a slightly larger depth.
According to MacOtakara, the iPhone 13 will be thicker by 0.26 mm but will carry the same length and breadth as that of the iPhone 12. The basic design is going to be the same, which includes the flat edges though the notch will likely be slightly smaller this time. That, according to the Japanese blog, owes it to the change in position of the top receiver that has led to a reduction in the size of the TrueDepth camera.
Apple will rely on the newly updated seven-element lens assembly deployed in iPhone 12 through 2022, according to TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a note to investors on Friday, Kuo says Apple has no plans to develop significant upgrades for its iPhone lens systems in 2021 or 2022.
First introduced with iPhone 12 last year, the 7P lens stack sits atop the wide angle camera module to increase light gathering capabilities and cut down on chromatic aberrations. Compared to the previous f/1.8 6P array, the current assembly performs at an f/1.6 aperture equivalent.
Kuo failed to elaborate on Apple s future plans for iPhone, but in past reports said the 7P arrangement would extend to iPhone 13 s telephoto module. While mere speculation, it is possible that Pro designated models will adopt the lens technology across all three rear-facing cameras by 2022.
2022 iPhone Lineup Not Expected to Get Significant Camera Lens Upgrades Jan 8, 2021 05:59 EST
There are expected to be no changes to the lens type Apple uses in its iPhones, and we might see that consistency when the 2022 iPhone family is unveiled next year. According to a renowned TF International Securities analyst, the seven-element lens upgrade present in the iPhone 12 will likely be seen in this year’s lineup, as well as the following year.
Though Camera Upgrades Are Expected, Apple Likely Won’t Upgrade the Lens Until 2023, Bringing Some Limitations
A new report from Ming-Chi Kuo talks about maintaining the same lens system for the 2021 and 2022 iPhone range. Previously, Kuo stated that we should expect camera upgrades for the ultrawide unit, but the lens technology will likely remain the same. While this means that the iPhone 13 series will still produce improved image quality, there could be some limitations in capturing images and video.

Apple confirmed that it would continue using its current iPhone 12 7P camera stack until 2023. This setup will be used for the upcoming iPhone models that will be released this 2021 and next year of 2022.
Ming-Chi Kuo, TF International analyst, stated the information. On Friday, Jan. 8, Kuo told the investors that Apple has no plans to conduct an upgrade for its iPhone lens system in 2021 or 2022.
