While RSV is an endemic virus that always exists in Queensland, experts say the infection rate this year has been a lot bigger than previous years, including before the COVID-19 pandemic. Across Queensland in January and February, there were 1151 admissions to Queensland hospitals with a principal diagnosis of RSV, up from 238 admissions for RSV in the same period last year.
