Scott Schmieder, county road and bridge foreman, reported to the Ste. Genevieve County Commission last Thursday that he had already gotten some work done on Lawrenceton Cutoff Road before heavy rains hit. He said his crews would be back at it as soon as weather permitted.
The crumbling road is the county’s first priority this paving season. A week earlier Schmieder and the commissioners met representatives of Jokerst, Inc. and Vern Bauman Contracting at the road and discussed the upcoming project. They also visited some other roads the local rivals will probably be bidding on, including the intersection of Roth Road and Highway Y.

Ste. Genevieve County is holding its own amid the changing landscape of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Jennifer Mueller, administrator of the county health department, reported to the County Commission last Thursday that 16 percent of county residents had received at least their first vaccine shot. She called the figure “really, really good.”
The county ranks 18th among 116 Missouri counties in vaccinations.
Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson asked whether the 16 percent figure reflected just what the local health department had given out. Mueller said it included residents who got their shots out of the county.
“We finished up our second-round clinic this week,” Mueller said. “It went really well.”

Paige Emily Mills of Patton, MO announces the birth of her daughter, Ronni Grace Mills at 4:51 pm on Thursday, March 4th at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital in Ste. Genevieve, MO.
She weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces and was 20 ¼ inches long.
Ronni Grace Mills was welcomed home by her grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles and many other family members and friends.
Maternal grandparents are Rod Mills of Patton, MO and Mark and Cybil (Cooper) Rottan of Fredericktown, MO.

City of Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen approved vehicle purchases for a pair of departments as well as engineering services on a water main project among a long list of agenda items last Thursday.
Vehicle purchases are through the state of Missouri’s Cooperative Procurement Program, which allows local governments to order products and services more quickly and efficiently.
Aldermen approved both the first and second reading for the purchase of two police vehicles.
This is a tax-exempt equipment lease through First State Community Bank, with total acquisition price tag of $88,120, according to a packet emailed to the Herald on Feb. 16.
