Confederacy, despite the Fatal Shooting of general jackson. The New York Historical society hosted the hourlong event. Good evening. Its great to be back at the New York Historical society. It is hard to believe that there actually is a battle this trio has yet to cover in our ongoing series, we have at least one more battle. We thank you for joining us. As you heard, the subject is the battle of chancellorsville. Before we get there, we have to cover a little bit of the terrain. It is a neglected battle in an audit self. It has so many links to what in and of itself. It has so many links to what came before and what came after that we wanted to do some context. If i can start with you, the battle was preceded by quite a few months of quiet in the winter of 1862, 1863. But things had changed, as i will show you here. In early 1863, recruitment of africanamericans for the union army begins following the emancipation proclamation, and legislation. Much has changed. You set the scene for
Its rally. 90odd points from 18,000 and about what, 400 points from record highs. The economy is slowing, but, hey, janet yellen has wall streets back, up she goes. Liberal candidacy lunacy deplore university. Trump in 16 is offensive, hateful and divisive, all chalk signs banned. Pathetic. Instead, watch this, kobe bryants goodbye game, 50 shots, 60 points. I say they gave him the ball quite a lot. I think he deserves it. 20 years in the game. What a guy. Varney company is about to begin. Well, look at this, two big back to back gains and were going to open higher yet again this morning. Stocks have really been on a roll. Those back to back gains, the last couple of days, i think they add up to 350 points. Right now were in shouting distance of 18,000. To be precise, were 92 points away, were going to open up 20 of the points. How about chipotle, an upgrade from j. P. Morgan, that stock was clobbered by e. Coli, but it will be up from 444 up to about 457. Up today chipotle. How about
World war ii and the years pacificd, he shaped the in a way that no one else has. Documentspository of and artifacts is a significant component. Quite a remarkable shift for me as i understood what chris is up to down there. That is his day job and by night, he is still in love with the american civil war. On to since gone perryville where he was in charge of the battlefield out there. He has gone on to the George Patton museum which landed him at the mccarthy memorial. He still goes to bed at night and dreams about the civil war. [laughter] it is my great delight to introduce to you my great polish. Rethren, chris chris good morning everybody. I have been introduced many ways over many years and consistently , the most interesting the most chuckleinducing introductions come from my polish brother over there. Thank you for that advertisement of the macarthur memorial. I encourage all of you to come down and visit at some point or another. If that professor gig doesnt work out for you,
Our first speaker this morning comes to us from the macarthur memorial in a norfolk, virginia. When i was there visiting this spring. It was my first opportunity to get it down and visit. He said the only thing that is equitable for the type of thing he is overseeing would be a president ial library. That stunned me a little bit. That is a significant thing. If you think about what Douglas Macarthur did during world war ii, afterwards in korea, he really shaped the face of the pacific in a way that no one else has. That repository of documents and memorabilia and artifacts is really a significant component of the 20thcentury. Chris kolakowski is the caretaker of that. It was really quite a remarkable shift for me, as i understood what chris is up to down there. But thats his day job. By night, he is still in love with the american civil war. He got started in fredericksburg in spotsylvania. He has since gone on to perryville, where he was in charge of the battlefield out there. He has
Richmond. Robert e lees army, safety 5000 men, holding the siege line 65,000 men, holding the seas lines. Siege lines. They face the army of the potomac, and an army level headquarters of the shenandoah under philip sheridan. Years, hasor four had a target on its back. It has been a primary or a secondary objective of u. S. Forces in the Eastern Theater since the wars beginning in 1861. It has had more military resources devoted to its capture than any objective the American Forces have her try to capture up to this point in history of the country. The largest army the u. S. Has ever fielded, the army of the potomac, has its objective at richmond. The people of richmond know they have been living with a target on the back. Richmond also is a simple. Is a symbol. I want to talk about that more as we get going. Confederacy,f the also one of the most important industrial cities in the confederacy. Begins, the battle of five forks outside of petersburg, virginia from the Confederate White
