MARIETTA The Washington County Career Center has named its March Students of the Month, Caeley Mincks and Joseph “Scott” Offenberger.
Science, Belief, And Democracy
The United States was founded on ideas that reflected Enlightenment thinking, including the importance of science and the separation of church and state. People were allowed the freedom to believe whatever they wanted, but those beliefs were not to interfere with the operation of the democratically elected government. Maintaining the separation between church and state - between belief and science - has always been difficult, and it is coming under increasing attack in recent times.

COVID-19 has had a major impact on our everyday lives. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) the pandemic has caused many people to face challenges that can be stressful, overwhelming, and cause strong emotions in adults and children. The CDC further notes public health actions, such as social distancing, are necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19, but they can make us feel isolated and lonely and can increase stress and anxiety.

Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey’s Spring 2021 semester will begin tomorrow (Tuesday). But, the college is also offering a slate of 12-week courses that begin later in the semester.
Students that may have missed the chance to sign up have a second chance at a full schedule for the semester that begins in February.
LCCC spokesperson Jill Lane tells the Big Z most of the late courses offered will meet virtually as a class online.

The late courses being offered include General Psychology, Public Speaking, Non-Western Music, Western Civilization (History course), and Intro to Astronomy. Enrollment for the late courses is open through February 15
