Two weeks ago, Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura, while still the acting as Governor, said the county government had begun the process of scrutinising the pending bills owed to contractors and suppliers.
This is after the court allowed the county government to enter into consent over implementation of the county’s Sh37.5 billion budget.
A report by the Auditor General on pending bills revealed that Nairobi County has Sh10.67 billion eligible pending bills with only Sh4.1 billion paid.
Out of this, City Hall has only paid contractors and suppliers Sh1.1 billion with another Sh3 billion to the Kenya Revenue Authority in value-added tax and pay-as-you-earn arrears.

He further attempted to force his way into the former Prime Minister s office but was repulsed by guards manning the door.
It was not ascertained why Sonko wanted to meet Odinga. However, the embattled politician claimed that the African Union Representative had scheduled a meeting with him. His allegations could not be substantiated.

Nairobi landlords have protested various affordable housing projects unveiled in the city by the Chinese and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).
The local developers argued that some of the projects especially those by foreign nationals were substandard and circumvented Kenyan laws.
The National Construction Authority (NCA) was accused of failing to regulate the industry. NCA provides licences and inspects the construction of buildings in Kenya.
Projects from China are reportedly undertaken under relatively low budget and are time efficient. Most of the foreign companies are currently building skyscrapers in the posh suburbs in Nairobi.

The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has identified the Globe Cinema roundabout for use as a bus terminus to aid in relocating matatus from the central business district (CBD).
The land has been acting as a holding zone for public service vehicles from the Mt Kenya and North Rift regions.
Matatus plying Juja Road and the Thika superhighway will use the new terminus and will join six others already under construction Green Park, Desai Road, Park Road, Fig Tree, Muthurwa, and Bunyala/Workshop roads.
Last October, City Hall announced that public service vehicles (PSVs) using the Khoja/Old Mutual terminus were to be relocated to the Globe roundabout. The matatus were blamed for traffic snarl-ups, as were the vehicles accessing the city centre through the Globe flyover.
The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has embarked on a plan to kill two birds with one stone by turning the city's garbage into energy.
NMS Director-General Mohamed Badi said plans to establish a waste-to-energy processing plant at the Dandora dumpsite has started, with tendering for the power
