Machine Head released their album Catharsis on January 26, 2018. The album was met with a spectrum of reviews, from people loving its diversity to folks absolutely dumping on it.

Machine Head s final album with guitarist Phil Demmel and drummer Dave McClain, the former of which called it a Robb Flynn solo project. Flynn has gone on record as really digging the album, and in a new lengthy General Journals email said there will come a day when this record get its due from the media.
