Taipei, Feb. 7 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Sunday it is working to fix its earthquake alarm system, which sent out more than a dozen of text message alerts for a magnitude 6.1 earthquake in the early hours of the day.
The multiple text messages, sent via the country s public warning system for the 1:36 a.m. quake, resulted from significant changes in the data used to analyze the geological event, CWB Director-General Cheng Ming-dean (鄭明典) said in a Facebook post.
The earthquake was centered in the Pacific Ocean, some 76 kilometers off Yilan County, according to the bureau.
