(RNS) The pastor of a General Baptist congregation has apologized to his church for a sermon in which he preached that “weight control” by wives could solve marital problems.
“In the sermon, I made insensitive remarks about women and made statements deemed unbiblical,” said Pastor Stewart-Allen Clark in a statement posted on the website of First General Baptist Church of Malden, Missouri.

Stewart-Allen Clark, a pastor for the 1st General Baptist Church in Malden, MO drew outrage recently when he was filmed asking “why is it so many times that women after they get married let themselves go?” instead of being physically attractive for their husbands. Clark blasted women who gain weight, look like “a butch,” or don’t focus on being “good-looking” to keep their husbands happy all the time.
“I’m not saying every woman can be the epic trophy wife of all time like Melania Trump,” said Clark. “Most women can’t be trophy wives, but you know…maybe you’re a participation trophy.”

On a Sunday morning in February, a pastor in Missouri gave a sermon that offended so many people that the church has placed him on leave.
According to
KMOV, the offending dialogue touched on how he feels: that women need to lose weight and submit to the sexual desires of their husbands so they won’t stray. He also stated that wives need to wear makeup, dress nicely, have nice hair, and appear less “butch.”
