Obasanjo, Saraki meet behind closed-doors

The meeting was held at the Olusegun Obasanjo’s Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Saraki arrived the venue of the meeting at about 12:12pm and immediately went straight into a closed-door session with Obasanjo at his Pent House residence located within the library.
Saraki who is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee has been meeting with some aggrieved members of the party lately.
Recall that the former president had in 2015 torn his PDP membership card publicly.
Obasanjo had torn the membership card during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election which President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, won.

The commissioner of police, Mr. Abutu Yaro congratulated Zamfara State government and parents of the just-released schoolgirls, assuring that a full-scale investigation is presently in progress, and that anybody found in connection with the abduction would not go unpunished.
In a press statement signed by the state police command’s spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, the commissioner noted that the number of abducted students were 279 and not 317 as earlier announced.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says the Senate has disappointed Nigerians by confirming the immediate past service chiefs as ambassadors.
The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of the immediate past service chiefs as non-career ambassadors, despite criticisms in some quarters.
Those confirmed include former Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; the former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai; and the former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.
Others are former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, and the former Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Usman.
Reacting to the development, Governor Wike said Nigerians are not happy that the same lawmakers, who called for the sack of the former service chiefs following their handling of security, confirmed their nomination due to party sentiments and bias.

It looks like the country maybe heading for victory in its war against insurgency with the agenda of the new Service Chiefs focusing on a repositioned and motivated armed forces that can professionally defeat adversaries.
Over the years, Nigerians have prayed and hoped for the roads to be free from kidnappers, end to insurgency, banditry and all forms of terrorism. To achieve all these, the citizens expect the new service chiefs to bring new ideas and approach to tackle these challenges.
