Free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors available
Ruidoso News Reports
The Community Foundation of Lincoln County, a not-for-profit organization based in Ruidoso, awarded a grant allowing Carrizozo Works, Inc., a Carrizozo not-for-profit, to purchase 51 combination carbon monoxide/smoke detectors and batteries for Carrizozo residents who do not already have detectors and who use gas, pellet or wood stoves in their homes.
The Carrizozo Fire Department is spearheading efforts to identify prospective recipients and volunteered to install the detectors.
The impetus for the grant stemmed from the deaths of two Carrizozo residents in their home at the end of March.
Everyone knew the couple; some were related, Chief LeeRoy Zamora Sr. said.
