generational divide sometimes because, you know, i m a gen xor, millennial if anybody asks. but in real life, the way we view our work is sometimes different than younger people. it s really been younger people out on the front lines saying hey, i need a minute here, or, you know, prioritizing their mental health in a way that we just weren t raised to do, quite frankly. what s your take on it? no, i think you re right. have i two younger siblings. i m here with them now at my parents house. and the difference they re saying you don t have to live that way. you don t have to be exhausted all the time. you don t have to put yourself last or your relationships last is really something that all of us can take to heart. this entire year was a stark reminder, including last year, but especially in year about how much collective how much if you can t bring your full self, whether you re tired or
had an opportunity to watch that entire segment this morning. and i will tell you that that, first of all, didn t surprise me at all. i mean that s the story of me as a black person growing up in fort worth, texas. oftentimes people forget i m a gen xor. i m in my 40s. we were the first generation of kids to go k through 12 in the dallas independent school district and the fort worth independent school district which i went through. we were the first kids to actually go through that school system completely integrated k through 12. oftentimes in school kids would use the n-word over and over again and say oh, it s not that big of a deal, you re overreacting, you re too sensitive. you call each other that all time. the fact women are repeating what i heard in school is not that big of a surprise to me, first of all. that s actually pretty normal thought amongst a lot of white people in the dallas-ft. worth
years of middling growth. i came back from iraq in the summer of 2008 when the crisis was kicking off. i represent a generation of veterans, millennials, gen-xor, we ve been waiting for our time. this now feels like our team. so there s a very positive sense from the veteran entrepreneurs that we speak with. trish: great to hear. i think it has been tough for people sort of coming of age in this economy at a time when we have had so many challenges from 2008 on. and there s really been no way for them to quite get ahead. except maybe unless they had money in the market. that was the beauty of the fed, right? they kept that liquidity going and the markets moved up bit by bit and they continued doing well. i m excited because i think the markets are doing well because of fundamentals rather than money printing from the federal
shepard: how could it not? right. they saw people losing their home. maybe mom and dad s 401(k) was devastated. hey say shepard: why overextend myself? i ll stay here for a while. get a couple roommates. that s what they ve done. they share. shepard: is that what motivates them? do the surveys suggest it s that reality of seeing that almost depression that did this or are there more factors? i didn t find the survey was very good explaining why. remember, it was a survey. i have to tell you this, sometimes people lie to surveys. shepard: no! probably done by a gen-xor. there you go. shepard: they re saving. good to hear. it s great. fantastic news. maybe somebody in this world will retire and travel the world. may not be me and you but somebody will do it. shepard: take care of their parents. thanks. shepard: thanks, gerri.
