The new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya, resumed office on Friday at the Nigerian Army headquarters, Abuja, just as the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor, urged him to tackle insurgency and banditry headlong.
Irabor played host to the new Chief of Army Staff in his office, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
According to a release from the DHQ, Irabor said Yahaya’s appointment as the 22nd COAS “was well deserved.”

Friday’s crash of a military plane in Kaduna, which brought the number of such crashes to three in the last three months, has led to calls for a proper investigation of recent military plane mishaps since February this year.
In making the calls, it was said that the rate at which military aircraft had crashed in less than 100 days necessitated a detailed probe.

The Chief of the Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor, has said that the military will carry out President Muhammadu Buhari s directive to the letter as the South-East, North-East and North-West regions will witness more military actions.
Irabor added that there was now a little calm in the North-West and North-Central going by the decimation of a number of the bandits and their leaders in the past weeks by the Military.
The federal government has initiated a coordinated approach to financing and implementing an integrated safe schools programme across the country, which is government-led and is tailored to the current realities. The Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd), on Sunday, arrived in Maiduguri on an assessment visit, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor and Service Chiefs.
Receiving the minister and his team at the headquarters of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri, the Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Farouq Yahaya, lauded the sustained commitment shown to the operations of the theatre by the minister, chief of defence staff and service chiefs.
He said the troops were grateful for the minister’s visit to interact with them, noting that immediately after their appointments, the service chiefs, led by the chief of defence staff, visited the theatre and had been doing so regularly.
