Switzerland is definitely a country with hidden treasures, and the city of Basel is one of them. It is a city in northwestern Switzerland on the river Rhine. Basel is Switzerland’s third-most-populous city (after Zürich and Geneva) with about 200,000 inhabitants. The official language of Basel is German, but the main spoken language is the local Basel German dialect. Basel is considered the cultural capital of Switzerland thanks to its famous museums, foundations and institutions. The city itself was seat in the 11th century and since then, Basel has shined by its cultural aura across Switzerland, Europe and even the world.
“Gemma Bovery” made me think of “Roxanne,” the fantastic 1987 Steve Martin-Fred Schepisi comic adaptation of Rostand’s “Cyrano de Bergerac.” Both are based on great French tragedies, taking elements from their source and refashioning them. But while Rostand’s masterwork became a comedy in the guise of Martin’s brilliant screenplay, little is done in “Gemma Bovery” to transform Flaubert’s plot. Sure, the events are scrambled, with minor changes here and there, but if you know what happens in “Madame Bovary,” you will not be surprised by this film. In fact, you’ll probably be as irritated as I was by “Gemma Bovery”’s attempts to be clever and meta.

Gaumont has boarded Tristan Séguéla’s high-concept comedy “For Better And For Worse,” headlined by Cesar-winning Fabrice Luchini (“The Mystery of Henri Pick”) and Catherine Frot (“Marguerite”), two of France’s most bankable stars. The movie will begin shooting in April.
Luchini stars in the bold comedy as Jean, the conservative mayor of a small town in Brittany who’s in the middle of a re-election campaign when his devoted wife of forty years, Edith, tells him she wants to become a man. For a politician campaigning on family values, this is a no-go, but Edith make a deal with him: she will postpone her transition until after the elections. But campaigns are all about digging up dirt to keep the rumor mill turning.
