New implant could mean end of reading glasses
New implant could mean end of reading glasses Roger Dobson for the Daily Mail © Provided by Daily Mail MailOnline logo Scientists have developed a new implant to treat the age-related decline in vision that often leads to reading glasses. The implant is inserted into the centre of the cornea the clear dome-shaped, outermost layer of the eye to plump it up and improve focus for near vision. It is made of synthetic collagen, which resembles corneal tissue. More than 100 patients are taking part in a trial of the implant to treat presbyopia, the progressive loss of the ability to see objects that are near.
