Two Kleinskool men, accused of brutally torturing a dog to death, appeared in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court this week.
Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) spokesperson Linda-Louise Swain said it was one of the worst alleged acts of animal cruelty her team had ever encountered.

Bethelsdorp police arrested a man with 37 suspected stolen cellphones after a tip-off on Sunday night.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said officers were conducting crime prevention operations when they received information about possible stolen goods.
The information led them to a house in Haggard Street, Greenfield, and upon arrival officers saw about seven men fleeing the house.
One suspect, carrying a bag, was arrested on the scene.

A 27-year-old man is due to appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with the gruesome murder of a woman at the weekend.

She said items found in the suspect s possession could be linked to the missing woman. It is alleged that at about 05:50 community members alerted police about a burning body near the dumping site in Van Duuren Street. The woman was burnt beyond recognition and her body was found wrapped in wire. Her identity is yet to be confirmed. However, earlier in the day, a case of a missing 21-year-old female was registered at the SAPS Gelvandale. The woman was last seen on 26 December at about 21:00, when she left her home in Rinkhout Street in Gelvandale, Naidu said.
The man is expected to appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate s Court on Tuesday.
