As ktvu allie rasmus explains, Marine Mammal scientists want to try and figure out how and why that whale died in the San Francisco bay this morning. A tow boat with flashing lights slowly maneuvered through the water, pulling what looked like a giant rock or mass with several birds perched on top. It weighs probably 40,000 pounds. Its approximately 35ft long. It was the carcass of a female gray whale that had washed up dead near the alameda shoreline saturday evening.
