The High Court today granted anticipatory bail to 144 BNP leaders and activists including its joint secretary general Habib-Un Nabi Khan Sohel in six separate cases filed in Dhaka and Rajshahi on charges of obstructing police in discharging their duties.
The HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan came up with the orders after a hearing on 23 separate bail petitions filed by the accused leaders and workers.
The HC asked 74 accused of three cases filed with Shahbagh and Ramna police stations in Dhaka to surrender before a trial court by March 21 in connection with the cases filed against them.

The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to 178 BNP leaders and activists for one month in 16 cases filed with different police stations in Dhaka over the incidents of torching 11 buses at different places in the capital city on November 12 in 2020.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order after holding hearing on separate 36 petitions filed in this regard.
Barrister Kayser Kamal and advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal appeared in the hearing for the bail seekers, while Deputy Attorney General Abul Hashem represented the state.

Lawyer Kaiser Kamal, accompanied by Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, stood for the BNP leaders and activists in the court, while Deputy Attorney General Abul Hashem represented the state. The BNP leaders and activists will have to appear before the court by Feb 7, lawyer Kaiser Kamal told reporters afterwards.
