£2,500 quote from county council to replace ten fence posts, parish told

FENCE posts for a Dales village playground from North Yorkshire County Council worked out 500 per cent more expensive than those provided by local companies, Bainbridge parish council was told this week. Council clerk, Karen Prudden, told members that the highways department had quoted £2,500 for replacing eight to ten posts at the side of the park next to the main A684. Meanwhile 24 posts provided by the Gayle Mill Trust at Hawes and prepared for fitting by Metcalfe Joinery of Bainbridge would cost just £1,300. Councillor Darren Percival said the Gayle Mill posts were made of larch and were now prepared and ready for fitting.

Funding boost will help historic mill renovations

A FUNDING boost will help an historic mill to reopen to visitors in 2021. Cultura Trust has received £159,000 to support its sites and collections, including Gayle Mill, an 18th Century watermill near Hawes. The funding will enable work for future public access and for new digital resources for online learning. It has also allowed the trust to appoint Richmondshire county councillor Stuart Parsons to prepare the mill for reopening. Cultura Trust is one of 445 organisations sharing £103 million to help them through the coronavirus pandemic, to help restart vital reconstruction work and maintenance on cherished heritage sites, keeping venues open and supporting those working in the sector.

Historic mill receives funding boost to enable reopening in 2021

Cultura Trust has received £159,000 to support its significant cultural heritage sites and collections, including the Grade II -listed 18th Century watermill Gayle Mill, near Hawes. The funding will enable essential work for future public access and by developing new digital resources for online learning. It will also help boost the Trust’s capacity with opportunities for employment to deliver the project It has also allowed the trust to appoint Richmondshire county councillor Stuart Parsons to prepare the mill for reopening.
