She told all of her friends this past weekend, so she said I could tell you,” added King. “And, Ellen, I’m going to be a grandmother and I can’t wait! … Right before we went on the air, I said, ‘Kirby, if Ellen doesn’t ask me anything about grandchildren I’m not gonna mention it. But if she does ask me, I don’t wanna stand there and say I don’t know. I don’t want to do that.’ “

Hollywood is collectively mourning the death of renowned actress and screen icon, Cicely Tyson.
The actress longtime manager, Larry Thompson, confirmed the news of her passing on Thursday evening with an emotional statement, recognizing how the 96-year-old actress created meaningful work up until her final days. Her memoir,
Just as I Am, was released only two days ago. I have managed Miss Tyson’s career for over 40 years, and each year was a privilege and blessing,” he said in a statement, per
Variety. “Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal and professional life. Today she placed the last ornament, a Star, on top of the tree.

Veteran actress Cicely Tyson has died at the age of 96.
Tyson, who starred as Constantine Jefferson in the 2011 smash hit The Help, died just days after the publication of her long-awaited memoir, Just As I Am. A career-spanning interview to promote the book had aired on US television earlier this week, showing the actress appearing in good health.
Prolific producer and director Tyler Perry, a longtime collaborator of screen legend Cicely Tyson, celebrated the late actress’ trailblazing career with a touching video highlighting some of her best performances.
Perry, who worked with Tyson on titles such as “Madea’s Family Reunion,” “Alex Cross” and “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” uploaded the minute-long montage Friday after penning a heartfelt tribute to the Emmy and Tony winner on social media. Tyson, who also won an honorary Oscar in 2019, died Thursday at 96.
“I was sitting at the table working when I got this overwhelming feeling to watch [Tyson’s ‘The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.’],” Perry wrote on Thursday. “Not 12 minutes into the movie my phone rang. It was Oprah calling to tell me that Cicely had died. This one brought me to my knees! She was the grandmother I never had and the wisdom tree that I could always sit under to fill my cup.”
