We’ve been thinking a lot about our grandparents recently. Last year, we mostly stayed in for them, tried hard to protect them and fretted about how bad they are at Zoom. But would we hire one – someone else’s – to look after our children?
That was the hope of Sarah Gooding, a former journalist of over 20 years when she founded Granny as Nanny, a childcare company that pairs older carers with families, in 2018. She was inspired by her own mother’s calm and diligent aptitude with her children, in the face of a stream of younger nannies that – though brilliant – never hung around for long.
