Howell set aside an order issued Friday by a judge in Tennessee concerning the release of Eric Munchel, of Nashville, that cleared the way for Munchel’s release as early as Monday. Howell stayed the lower court’s order pending a review.

A federal judge has blocked the release of Eric Gavelek Munchel, 30, the D.C. insurrection defendant better known as "zip tie guy." There's a still a chance he could be released pending trial, but Beryl A. Howell, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, wants to review a Tennessee magistrate judge's prior decision.

Tennessee man accused of rioting at Capitol building with zip-tie handcuffs held without bond
The suspect seen carrying zip ties among the mob of people who invaded the U.S. Capitol was arrested and appeared before a federal judge late Monday afternoon.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. â A former Nashville bartender that was seen carrying zip ties among the mob of people who invaded the U.S. Capitol last week will remain in custody until his next hearing on Jan. 19.
It was the first step toward the criminal prosecution of 30-year-old Eric Munchel.
