The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation has refuted a statement by the DA alleging it paid R16.5 million to service providers to administer R13 million worth of Covid-19 relief funds to struggling artists and athletes.

The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation has taken a step to help up-and-coming musicians.
The department, together with Infinite View Management, launched an initiative to help emerging artists digitise their music for free.
According to Arts and Culture MEC Mbali Hlophe, this is in response to how Covid-19 affected the creative sector.
She told Daily Sun: “With lockdown forcing events to close, a lot of people started to consume the arts and music digitally and the idea came about to help less fortunate artists digitise their music.
