MUMBAI: Vaccination for the 18-44 age group will be available only in private centres when the next phase begins, the BMC announced on Tuesday. While uncertainty lingers over the launch date of the next stage, the BMC is believed to have assured private hospitals that it will supply them doses.
On Tuesday, Maharashtra reached a new milestone of administering 1.5 crore vaccine doses, while Mumbai hit a daily high of 72,606 vaccinations before running out of supplies in many centres.
Following a meeting on Tuesday, civic chief IS Chahal said the 63 government and municipal vaccination centres in the city would continue to inoculate those above 45 years next month but not the 18-44 category, while private centres can vaccinate all above 18 years of age. Reiterating the central norm, the BMC said immunisation at private centres for 18-44 will happen only through online appointments; on-spot registrations will not be allowed.

MUMBAI: Soon, five-star hotels such as InterContinental at Marine Drive and Trident at BKC will be used as step-down facilities for Covid patients from major private hospitals in the city who are on the road to recovery or require minimal medical intervention. In a circular issued on April 14, the BMC has said that such facilities at star hotels will serve as an extension and an integral part of private hospitals.
For patients who do not require emergency medical intervention, or oxygenation, ICU or ventilator beds will be moved to the hotels and hospitals linked to them will assess their clinical condition regularly. While Bombay Hospital is linked to Intercontinental, H N Reliance Foundation Hospital is with BKC s Trident.
