(File photo) GHAZIABAD: To mark seven months of protests against the three contentious agricultural bills and to exert pressure on the government, farmers have planned another ‘tractor rally’ on June 26. As per their plan, hundreds of tractors from BKU’s headquarters Sisauli have started for UP Gate and will reach Ghaziabad on Saturday. Protesting farmers along the route will join in, with their tractors. Gaurav Tikait, BKU leader, said, “It was decided at a recently held meeting at the BKU headquarters in Sisauli that farmers from western UP districts will assemble at UP Gate on June 26 to mark seven months of protests against the three controversial laws. The farmers have been instructed to come in their tractors in the form of a ‘tractor rally’.”

Ghaziabad: Farmers at UP Gate and the district headquarters in Ghaziabad burnt copies of the farm bills to protest against the three laws that were passed in Parliament a year ago. Police teams were deployed outside the houses of ministers VK Singh and Atul Garg as members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, which is spearheading the protest, threatened to demonstrate outside the residences of MLAs and other politicians. At UP Gate, the protest was led by Gaurav Tikait, the nephew of BKU leader Rakesh Tikait. “The government thinks the protest will wear off with time. But they are wrong. On Sunday, we burnt copies of the farm bills and this is the start of the renewed protest against the government” said Dharmendra Malik, a spokesperson for the BKU. “Meetings are being held on how to take the agitation forward,” he added.

No more mahapanchayats in Haryana and Punjab, says farmer leader Charuni : The Tribune India

Sushil Manav Chandigarh, February 19  With the strength of farmers thinning at Singhu and Tikri borders, Gurnam Singh Charuni, the leading farmer leader from the state, on Friday announced that there would be no more ‘mahapanchayats’ in Haryana and Punjab.  Charuni said farmers from the two states would rather be asked to assign duties among them to reach Singhu and Tikri borders so that farmers attended dharna there turn wise.  “There is no use of holding mahapanchayats in Haryana and Punjab as the basic purpose of these events is to make farmers aware of the farm laws and farmers here are already aware. We will hold mahapanchayats in other states wherever warranted,” Charuni said talking to The Tribune today.
