Prevention of
Cow Slaughter Bill passed; violators could be jailed for up to seven years
The Legislative Assembly on Wednesday approved the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill 2000 amid
vocal protests by the Opposition parties.
The Bill prevents slaughter of cattle below the age of 13 years and sale of beef. Any violations will be dealt with a stringent punishment of up to five years in prison that could extend up to seven years or penalty of Rs 50,000 or Rs 5 lakh or both.
Interestingly, the Bill was tabled within three days of the State
