The Gatineau Fire Service said the boats called 911 just after 3 p.m., when they were no longer able to row against the strong current of the river that was sending them toward the Deschenes Rapids. They ended up in the water as they passed through the rapids.

Fortunately, a media release from the fire service said, the boaters were wearing personal flotation devices. Another boater downstream from the rapids picked up one person, while the other clung to a rock before being rescued by a fire department water rescue team.
